Traphaco’s experts successfully defend state project on genetic development

After more than five years implementing the state-level research project entitled "Exploitation and development of Dioscorea hamiltonii (Chinese yam) and Coix lacryma-jobi (coixseed) genetic resources as raw materials to produce medicine,” on September 30th 2016 Traphaco’s pharmacist Nguyen Thi Van Anh, who chaired the research, successfully defendede the project in front of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s State-level Genetic Fund Assessment Council.

The Ministry of Science and Technology previously assigned this project to Traphaco JSC, in cooperation with MTV Medicine Co., Ltd., Northeastern Region Seeding and Seedling Co., Ltd. and farmers in the northern mountainous and midland region.

The total funding for this project is VND 6.6 billion ($300,000), of which VND 3.2 billion from the state budget for scientific and technological research and VND3.4 billion from Traphaco and some other sources.

Members of the project developing board included two top officials of Traphaco - Chairwoman Vu Thi Thuan and Deputy General Director Nguyen Huy Van.

The project was launched in July 2011, with a huge amount of work (42 scientific themes) covering many fields: Biology, Botany, Agronomy, Pharmacy ...

The fruits of this project include 29 scientific products (6 type I products, 20 type II product, and 3 type III product), training of one pharmacological master degree holder and three pharmacists.

The project was rated excellent by the Ministry of Science and Technology’s State-level Genetic Fund Assessment Council.

According to the Council, the project has brought about new results related to identification of Dioscorea hamiltonii (Chinese yam), a popular herb which is often used wrongly or faked in Vietnam.

Above all, the project has greatly contributed to the direction and development of high-quality herbal plants of high value and economic efficiency.
