On July 26 in Ho Chi Minh City, Forbes Vietnam announced Vietnam's 50 best listed companies for 2018. This is the sixth consecutive year Forbes Vietnam make this list in Vietnam.
The "50 Best Listed Companies" ranked by Forbes Vietnam is the list of companies with the best performance through published financial indicators, including listed companies on the Ho Chi Minh City (HSX) and Hanoi (HNX) Stock Exchange.
In particular, Forbes Vietnam examines all listed shares on HSX and HNX and sorts their companies in respective sector. In the preliminary round, companies that are at loss, in the process of being delisted, have a capitalization value and turnover less than 500 billion dong, or have business activities dependent on parent companies (which are examnined) are all knocked out. In the quantitative round, companies were rated according to these criteria: CAGR in revenue, profitability, ROE, ROC and EPS growth for the period of 2013-2017. The quantitative calculation in this round following the method of Forbes is supported by Viet Capital Securities Joint Stock Company (VCSC).
Turning to the qualitative round, Forbes Vietnam assessed independently the level of sustainable development of the enterprises: brand-name, corporate governance quality, history of profit origins, and sustainable development prospects. Companies with repeated violation of the disclosure obligations of two stock exchanges and in doubt over manipulation of stock prices were eliminated.
According to Forbes Vietnam, the 50 companies listed this year hold 70.8% total cap of the HSX and HNX. Total profit of listed companies reached 106,949 billion dong, increase of 34%. The sixth listing of Forbes Vietnam shows the breakthroughs of many big companies, including those from the private sector such as Vingroup, Hoa Phat, VPBank or Mobile World.
For the pharmaceutical industry, Forbes rated Traphaco as the largest producer of herbal medicines in Vietnam, six times in a row. In 2017, besides its strength, Traphaco has made a breakthrough in the field of Western medicine when it owns the most modern Western pharmaceutical factory in Vietnam with the 4.0 smart technology and the investment of nearly 500 billion dong.
"Forbes Vietnam's sixth list of best performance companies in Vietnam reflects Vietnam's economic picture and stock market performance last year. The positive developments in the financial market increase the number of banking and securities companies. Important sectors such as real estate, construction materials, logistics, etc. are still growing and remain stable, thus having the largest number of representatives following the financial sector," said Nguyen Lan Anh, secretary of Forbes Vietnam magazine.
To make this list, Forbes Vietnam uses the company rating method developed by Forbes (US), taking into account the characteristics of listed companies in Vietnam. The data used for the assessment is based on the audited financial statements of the five consecutive years of the period 2013-2017 (in the case of companies with financial years ending mid-year Forbes Vietnam uses the data of last fiscal year).
